Arsenal were reported to have had a deal in place for William Carvalho in the summer but at the last minute the price was put up and the player's agent tried to squeeze a little more out of Arsenal.
Carvalho is considered by many to be the premier defensive midfielder available on the transfer market in Europe at this moment and Arsenal will have a battle on their hands to snare him under the noses of their rivals.
