Player Ratings 2013/14 - Part One: Goalkeepers

Lukasz FABIANSKI - 21

29 years old - 10+1 apps / 3 Clean sheets (1 PL / 2 FA Cup)

Lukasz Fabianski is another player who has come a long way since he joined the club. At first, he was a liability and earned the nickname ‘Flappyhandski’, due to his alarming lack of ability to deal with crosses and corners. He has, however, always been a good shot stopper and, albeit belatedly, become a reliable back up keeper, with his best performance coming in the 2-0 victory in the Allianz Arena at the beginning of 2013. However, he never really has looked like becoming our first choice and though he has improved, isn’t really good enough to be number one at a top european side. Still, he has played a magnificent role in our FA Cup win and having turned around fan opinion on him, deserved his success in the competition. With time running out in his career, it’s understandable that Pole has stated he won’t sign a new contract at the club and will leave this summer. He has been a very good servant to the club and will find a new club without much trouble.

Season Rating - 7/10

Worst Moment - Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea (COC) - A horrible mix up between himself and Carl Jenkinson led to the opening Chelsea goal and put us on the back foot. Though had his mad rush in the cup final resulted in a goal, that would have eclipsed this moment with ease.

Best Moment - Wigan 1-1 Arsenal (FA Cup) - The two penalty saves he made in the Cup semi final may be the best moments of his entire Arsenal career. Two excellent stops that took the pressure off our kick takers and sent us back for the final.

World Cup? - Again, the Polish team failed to make the tournament, although Lukasz may have struggled to make the squad anyway.

Will he stay? - No. His contract is finished and he’s already said he will leave to try and gain first team football. But he will go with the best wishes of every Arsenal fan.

Emiliano VIVIANO - 13

28 years old - 0 apps / 0 Clean sheets

One of the more puzzling signings of the Wenger era. Loaned in as cover after the departure of Vito Manone, the Italian didn’t make a single appearance for the club and made it onto the bench for just a handful of games. It quickly became apparent that Wenger had no intention of playing him and he was simply forgotten as the season progressed. A poor move for both him and the club that won’t have done his reputation any good.

Best Moment - N/A

World Cup? - Not included in the Italy squad for the tournament.

Will he stay? - Has an option to buy in his loan agreement, but I would be amazed beyond words if we exercised it. Will return to Palermo in Serie B.
