Wenger Eyes Defensive Signings
Arsene Wenger has dimissed all rumours concerning Arsenal signing offensive players suggesting that he is only interested in defensive players.
During his weekly press conference he was asked about rumours linking Arsenal to a bid for Real Madrid star Isco and Wenger swiftly dispatched of the rumour stating:
No, we are not on the case. We have plenty of creative players. We are more short on the defensive side of our game, not on the offensive side. We have plenty of offensive players. We just spoke about Podolski who just went out, we spoke about Sanogo going out because we have so many offensive players that they don't get a chance to play. So we won't buy someone else in the attack.

When quizzed on Loic Perrin and Gabriel Paulista he replied on both counts that he was not on the case but wryly followed that with "We keep all that as quiet as possible".

It's widely known that Arsenal are need of defensive reinforcements and despite not declaring interest in any first-team ready player Gunners fans will be boosted by Wenger's acknowledgements that defensive signings are needed. A welcome declaration from the manager.
Perrin and Paulista may have been dismissed as targets by Wenger but Gooners are well trained in taking a pinch of salt with their manager's response to transfer speculation as he has often categorically denied interest in a player or attempted some prestidigitation such as "I have never heard of Cazorla" before signing the player in question.
One player Wenger did declare interest in is young Legia Warsaw defensive midfielder Krystian Bielik commenting:
He is a young boy that we follow, yes. You see I gave you some information! We are not very close at the moment

The manager has been quoted saying he believes most business will be done at the end of the window so with three weeks left to go it would seem unlikely that Arsenal will make any announcements in the coming days.
