Alexis Denies Making Secret Sex Tape

Alexis Sanchez took to Twitter today to post a brief statement about rumours his friends secretly filmed him having sex with a Chilean gymnast whilst on international duty.

This is what he had to say:

Lately a lot has been said about something that is supposed to have happened at my house in Santiago. That story is FALSE. Never in my life have I disrespected that woman or any other woman. I beg you all to consider my professional career as well as that of the lady that invented that story, and reach your own conclusions. This is the only time I will refer to this topic. Regards. Alexis.

This is one of those weird stories that come out about footballers that causes confliction. Part of you wants to say "Does it really matter?" whilst another part says "Yes, it does matter". Regardless of his position as a 'celebrity' that kind of behaviour is abhorrent. That is not say Alexis was party to this incident - if indeed it occurred - but in general such behaviour is reprehensible and misogynistic.

Another question that creeps into your mind asks why the 'victim' in this situation has waited so long to make a statement and why are they courting the media over it? It's one of those really tough moral dilemmas where you just have to refuse to form an opinion until the facts have been made public. Things can quickly get nasty when you start taking sides.

It would be wrong to cast aspersions on either party and nothing can be gained from picking over it. The story is out there and no doubt it will gain more attention now Alexis has commented on it (he ironically types).

Innocent until proven guilty - and that works both ways.
