5 Arsenal Player's Names Most Often Mispronounced
Thierry Henry
Who can forget the ever entertaining and sage Glenn Hoddle showing off his wonderful French language skills in many "I'm really cultured - I played abroad" moments and referring to Thierry Henry as "Henray"?
It's bad enough people still refer to him with the English pronunciation of Henry. If in doubt just call him The King.
Santi Cazorla
Surely the most repeatedly mispronounced name in the history of football. It would be a mammoth task to discover a pundit or media personality who has not at some point called Santi "Car-Zola". Cazorla itself is a mispronunciation as few pronounce the Z the Spanish way but then again those that do are accused of being pretentious so and so's.
Sylvain Wiltord
Unlike Cazorla who has a letter we mispronounce in the English tongue, Wiltord is a name that has been misspoken from day one due to the enunciation of a silent letter. French speakers exasperate at the constant sounding of the letter D by English speakers. Olivier Giroud is continuing the theme in ironic fashion as many Arsenal fans do not pronounce the D, correctly, when singing his song but sound the D when speaking his name in conversation. And who can ever forget Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain talking of Giroud's arrival to Arsenal on Arsenal TV and calling him "Jay Rude"?
