6 Games That Cost Arsenal The Double

Were it not for Arsenal's game against Chelsea in December or the return fixture against United at the Emirates this probably would have been the most boring game of our season. The first half was absolutely atrocious and neither team deserved to be in front yet United took the lead when Giroud and Gibbs allowed Van Persie to get to the ball and score the winning goal against us. Again.

Arsenal responded well to going behind and created enough chances to equalise in the second half but Ramsey, Vermaelen and Özil all saw chances saved or squandered. Bacary Sagna also saw two wonderful crosses go begging as the first, requiring just the merest of touches, passed by without a hint of an Arsenal attempt at it and the second screaming for Bendtner to get his head on it but to no avail.

A lack of killer instinct, willingness to drive into the box and poke legs out in blind hope costs Arsenal this game or at least a point from it. Manchester United were there for the taking but Arsenal gave United too much respect and feared them too greatly.

Arsenal 1 - Everton 1

This was one of those games where a decent argument could be made for either team to have taken all three points or that a draw was the fairest outcome. 

Both teams attacked from the off with vim and vigour and created one of the most entertaining matches of the season so far but it was Arsenal who took the lead on the 80th minute.

With so little time left on the clock Arsenal really should have seen this game out but in true Arsenal style they lost the lead within 4 minutes. Deulofeu was allowed far too much space in the box and some shoddy defending allowed him to create an angle to shoot from. It was a rocket of a shot but Szczesny really should have done better.

Had the defence and the goalkeeper done a better job in those final 10 minutes then Arsenal would have picked up all three points but even so they still had a chance to win the game 2-1 when Giroud's shot from the edge of the box was just a fraction too high and rattled the bar.

This was a game Arsenal could have won and having gone up in the game so late they probably should have seen it out.
